$450 towards $350

I spent the first four decades of my life feeling like poetry was a very unreachable thing. Other people wrote it. Other people understood it. Other people enjoyed it. Then I started reading it. Some of what I found was heady and out of reach. But other poems—the poems that made me want to drop everything and read—were accessible and real. In their verses I found everyday people with everyday concerns that were somehow reaching into my small-town Texas life and shifting things. Not long after, I started writing my own poetry.

For this 30/30 poetry challenge, I will be working on a series of poems called "The Good Life" that explores what our culture lifts up as living the good life. My aim is that this subject matter will feel familiar and ring true. Is it too much to hope it might also shift some things as well?

Tupelo Press provides the platform and every day for the next month I will bring my words, accompanied by a cohort of fine poets -- all of us writing thirty poems in thirty days. 30/30 poems have been accepted by over 200 journals and featured in over 40 published chapbooks, all so Tupelo Press can keep publishing voices that might never be heard otherwise. Every dollar donated gives me confidence to write more, and helps the press place more poems in incredibly necessary books. Please help me help this distinguished press. Every little bit matters—thank you for your support.
