Your support motivates me to write the most kick-ass poetry I can this April, during National Poetry Month.

The Tupelo Press 30/30 project has given me new impetus to write, making me feel again that my poetry matters. I prioritized my academic career for 25 years, continually writing poems on the side, because I didn't think my poems could make a difference. Lately, I've been returning to my true love.

As a 31-year longtime survivor of the AIDS pandemic and as a gay man, I offer a special perspective on our current novel coronavirus pandemic. I am sheltering in place in Macomb, Illinois with my husband, Rick; our cats, Toto and Dorothy; and our dog, Oz.

Tupelo Press provides the platform, I bring the poems, accompanied by other fine poets, writing thirty poems in thirty days, all ours to edit and submit as we wish. 30/30 poems have been taken by over 90 journals and featured in over 40 published chapbooks, all so Tupelo Press can keep publishing exquisite and diverse voices that might never be heard otherwise.

Every dollar you give encourages me to write more, and it helps the press place more poems in gorgeous books. I would suggest a donation of $3.00 a poem for 30 poems, for those who can afford it. Donations can be given daily (after reading my new poem!) or all at once. Even the smallest donation, though, matters very much to me. Help me help this distinguished press. Please give today!
