Poet Bio: Arthur Kayzakian is an Armenian-Iranian- American diasporic poet, a teacher and an MFA graduate from San Diego State University. He is also a contributing editor at Poetry International and has served as an editor at The B-Side literary journal. He is a recipient of the Minas Savvas Fellowship, and his poems have appeared in or are forthcoming from several publications including Pacific Review, Rufous City Review, and Taos Journal of International Poetry & Art.

Author Statement: My goal is to stay in the practice of writing poetry every day. I want to continue my education with a PhD. I aim to apply to several colleges this year, but I would like to stay in Los Angeles and build within my poetry community. I have a working manuscript that is near completion. I am in the final line edits phase (I think). I would love an opportunity to teach creative writing again. While I love teaching and research as a scholar, I consider myself a poet before an academic. I am always working on my craft. I am addicted to the magic I feel from surprise. I am always trying to discover new ways to use language; therefore, new ways to perceive the world. When a poem makes sense in a refreshing way, I feel like I might have a poem. That is a good day for me.

Your support gives me vital inspiration as I write for thirty days this month.

Tupelo Press provides the canvas, I bring my words, accompanied by other fine poets, writing thirty poems in thirty days, all ours to edit and submit as we wish. 30/30 poems have been taken by over 90 journals and featured in over 40 published chapbooks, all so Tupelo Press can keep publishing exquisite and diverse voices that might never be heard otherwise.

Every dollar gives me confidence to write more, and helps the press place more poems in gorgeous books. Help me to help this distinguished press. Give today!
