Poet Bio: Matt Kelsey currently serves as webmaster for RHINO and teaches on the South Side of Chicago. He has received scholarships from the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference and Sewanee Writers' Conference, and teaching fellowships from the University of Washington for their writing programs in Rome and Friday Harbor. His poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in Beloit Poetry Journal, Best New Poets, Smartish Pace, Poetry Northwest, Painted Bride Quarterly, and elsewhere.

Author Statement: I'm trying to complete my manuscript, the working title of which is What Gives. The manuscript has received enormous boosts from my time at Bread Loaf and from investments in other writing communities. Tupelo's 30/30 fundraiser will provide me with daily incentive and another encouraging community. Teaching on the South Side of Chicago has also made it tough for me to prioritize poetry as much as I typically have in the past, and I think this endeavor will help place poetry back at the top of my list. I have other long-term poetry goals, of course--constructing an interactive poetry museum, curating some anthologies, collecting my writings on Roethke's archives--but the completion of my manuscript is the most immediate and most reachable at this time, and I think my time as volunteer writer for Tupelo will simultaneously bear new drafts for my collection and also raise awareness and money for an outstanding press.

Your support gives me vital inspiration as I write for thirty days this month.

Tupelo Press provides the canvas, I bring my words, accompanied by other fine poets, writing thirty poems in thirty days, all ours to edit and submit as we wish. 30/30 poems have been taken by over 90 journals and featured in over 40 published chapbooks, all so Tupelo Press can keep publishing exquisite and diverse voices that might never be heard otherwise.

Every dollar gives me confidence to write more, and helps the press place more poems in gorgeous books. Help me to help this distinguished press. Give today!
