Since childhood, poetry has offered me a singular opportunity to get my voice out. I think of my self as a high-functioning introvert, despite years working in media and academia. I spent decades as a photojournalist and teacher, using my cameras to define my view of the world. But this only made the poet in me, more observant, more aware. For women and men such as me, modern poetry is visual and verbal. These are exciting times for poetry around the world.
