Poet Bio: James (Jim) Dott is a poet who lives in Astoria, Oregon near the mouth of the Columbia River with his wife and daughter. He is a retired elementary teacher who taught in Oregon and Malaysia. Jim volunteers once a week in a first grade classroom where he teaches science. He reads bedtime stories for children on Coast Community Radio and occasionally acts in local theater productions. Jim's poetry has been described as lyric-narrative and explores our relationships with nature and place. His chapbook A Glossary of Memory, an imagined memoir in 26 poems, was published in 2015. He has two chapbooks awaiting publication, Naming the Trees, a series of poems on trees, and Another Shore, a sequence of poems set in Plymouth/Patuxet, Massachusetts in the 1620s. His work has appeared in Written River, North Coast Squid, Rain, Southern Poetry Review, and Turtle Island Quarterly. You can visit his website jamesdott.com for more on his writing.

Author Statement: By participating in the 30/30 Project I hope to work toward creating shorter more condensed pieces that capture moments like haiku or photographs. I will continue my quest to use more vibrant verbs. My muse: the news (not just human), what I see out walking, moments in the day, or bits of memory and dream. But also leaving myself open to catch fire from wherever the sparks come flying.
