TUPELO 30/30 Together we can bring poetry to life!

Author Statement: I think of my current work as Dreams-in-a-Box. I start by collaging a few phrases from my notebook that 'attract' each other, and notice as an event or personality in my life begins to emerge. This core emotional constellation then attracts new and old writing that enables the poem to unfold. I am happiest when the work is surprising, colorful, leaping, and liminal. With encouragement to "write what scares you the most," and relying on images to carry the emotional weight, I have found a process to explore personal material that would otherwise be difficult to manage.

Currently, I write and exchange one or two poems mid-month with two amazing poet-friends. Our schedule and their feedback are really all that has kept me writing on any kind of consistent basis. I have taken a few week-long workshops with poem-a-day assignments, but I have never yet been able to establish a daily writing practice. I am really looking forward to this month-long challenge, and hope that it lays down a path I can continue to follow when the month is over.
