Opportunity To Support The Arts
"I wish forever this season,
the apple trees, only days from being picked clean,
for apple butter, jam and warm fresh pies -
there is a rustling in a rhythm familiar to the orchard..." excerpt, Michellia Wilson
Dear friends,
I am in a fund raising marathon this month, with nine other poets, writing a poem every day, supporting the prestigious Tupelo Press. We invite family, friends, and colleagues to sponsor our poems. I am specifically asking you to sponsor my work. I will provide a link at the end of this post.
If you know me, you know I care deeply for the medium of poetry and I work hard to create quality work. This marathon is different in that the poems posted are works in progress. It is a risk to put such fresh work on display before I get a real chance at editing, to feel it is actually complete. I am apprehensive to share unpolished work, but I have committed and am excited to share my fresh poems.
As I mentioned earlier, Tupelo Press is a prestigious, non-profit press. They have spent 17 years publishing new voices. They are giving my work some exposure, and bringing me into a community of over 350 alumni helping each other to see their works published.
Today you have a chance to help one of the few, and one of the best non-profit independent publishers we have. This helps them survive in a competitive market. Donations help keep the small press support and publish quality poetry.
Here is what you are supporting:
** Independent literary, mission driven press with focus on publishing literature.
** Independent literary publishers that provide access to the voices of entire communities.
** Independent literary publishers produce 98% of poetry being published every year as well as literature in translation and fiction by emerging writers.
There are so many ways to support the press. A subscription to the wonderful books of poetry sent to your home. A one time donation in any amount will support me and the realm of poets eager to see their works published. I hope you consider supporting me and supporting the amazing press I am representing during this month of November. Even if you cannot financially support the press, please take a moment and read my daily submission of work. Read the work of other poets. Enjoy what poetry has to offer in the way of spiritual growth.
Thank You,
Michellia Wilson
