When Kayla is not writing poetry she is with her horses that she trains and competes at a high level in show jumping. Kayla has always had a passion for poetry and the power of the spoken and written word. The time Kayla is not caring for her horses she is reading something; from novels, plays, and poetry to classics and non-fiction she has seen it all. Some of Kayla's greatest inspiration comes from her love for nature and her fear of humanity. She spends a great deal of her time in her green house garden, walking along the river, or simply staring at the sky.

For the 30/30 project, Tupelo Press provides the canvas, I bring my words— writing thirty poems in thirty days. It a little like running a marathon, but without the exercise or extreme training. However, the need for motivation and support prevails. Poems from this project have been recognized by over 90 journals and featured in over 40 published chapbooks, all so Tupelo Press can keep publishing exquisite and diverse voices that might never be heard otherwise.
