Gaston Bachelard said: "The great function of poetry is to give back to us the situation of our dreams". As someone who has insomnia and hates dreaming, this quote hasn't always made sense to me. But in these increasingly tumultuous times, I find that it holds true. Poetry and dreams both allow you to find the images that won't leave your mind. The things you've lost that you wish you didn't, the things you wish you had lost sooner, the moments you didn't realize were important until they were gone. In dreams and in poems, these things may come back to us for a moment. In poetry, you can teach them to rest. For a moment, you may resurrect the old things and make your peace.

Tupelo Press is giving me and many others a platform to share their poems. If any of the poems you read bring you the peace that comes with a good dream, I hope you'll consider donating.
