$540 towards $350

Hello and welcome to my 30/30 Tupelo Press fundraiser! I'm excited to challenge myself to write a poem every day of the month of September. I hope to use these poems to complete my MFA Thesis, which I'll defend next spring. But, I can't do this work alone! I need your help to succeed. Every dollar you donate to Tupelo Press gives me the confidence and encouragement to keep going. My fundraising goal is $350, which works out to a little less than $12 a day. If you can give $12, send me an email (mlesifko@gmail.com) with a request for a poem you'd like to see written, and I'll make it happen!

Tupelo Press has published poets whose work I admire, like Maggie Smith and Ilya Kaminsky, who is being honored this year with the Anisfield-Wolf Award. Your donations will not only fuel my writing this month, but also ensure that Tupelo Press can keep publishing exquisite and diverse voices that might never be heard otherwise. Thank you for supporting my mission to beat procrastination, work out my poetry-writing muscles, and support a worthy independent press.

If we haven't met before, allow me to introduce myself! I'm entering my third year as an MFA candidate in Poetry at the University of Florida. I completed my BA in Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and am proud to be originally from Pittsburgh, PA. In addition to writing poetry, I enjoy teaching poetry workshops, composition courses, and professional communication at UF. In recent summers, I have also taught reading classes to kids with the Institute of Reading Development. I'm proud to have co-founded a nano-theatre company called Birch Swinger Ensemble with my husband, Jeremy, with whom I also perform improv comedy (occasionally, for an audience, even!).
